Tild Greene: Yield
At the invitation of the Oude Kerk and on the occasion of the Warmoes Biennial, artist Tild Greene made a new werk for church’s façade. The work is constructed in the form of a funnel that collects rainwater and channels it towards a circular copper element. Over the course of the exhibition, the copper gradually changes colour due to weather and time, while a section remains covered with silicone and is thus preserved. The work refers, among other things, to the existing drainage systems on the roof and along the façade of the building, and alludes to the Amsterdam plaskrul, the open-air urinal found in the neighbourhood around the church. Like the plaskrul, Yield is both visible and discreetly present at the same time.

About the artist
Tild Greene (they/them) is a British artist working primarily with sculpture and text. Greene’s practice explores how materials bear the traces of use and time. They often work with existing or industrial objects, combining these with more fragile materials. Greene engages with themes such as utility, value, repetition and resilience. By assigning objects a different function or placing them slightly outside their intended use, they raise questions about how we attribute value — not only to things, but also to bodies and behaviour in public space.

About the Warmoes Biennial – an art manifestation in the heart of Amsterdam
The Warmoes Biennial (7 March – 3 May) invites visitors to rediscover Amsterdam’s historic city centre. Featuring both intimate and large-scale artworks in unexpected locations, a diverse programme, and a warm welcome from the local community, the festival challenges audiences to view this much-criticised yet much-loved district with fresh eyes. Across more than twenty locations — from cafés and shops to galleries, snack bars and hotels — artists present their work and enter into dialogue with the city and its visitors. The Warmoes Biennial connects art, makers, local residents and audiences, revealing the many stories, perspectives and creative energies hidden behind the façades of the city centre.
