What do you carry with you, and what do you leave behind? In this workshop, you will explore the ideas behind Kimsooja’s exhibition and her artistic approach. Together, we will investigate how textiles, light, and everyday objects can hold stories – even the ones that are not immediately visible. This workshop is suitable for everyone aged 8 to 88.
Kimsooja: To Breathe – Mokum
This workshop is part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition Kimsooja: To Breathe – Mokum. For the Oude Kerk, she has created her most extensive series of bottari: iconic textile bundles inspired by Korean wrapping cloths, filled with clothing from Amsterdam communities. She has also covered the 44,000 panes of the church’s towering windows with transparent film that refracts sunlight into rainbow colours. To Breathe – Mokum offers a meditative reflection on the idea of homecoming, and on what we choose to carry with us or leave behind.
