Composer and producer Anushka Chkheidze presents, in this edition of Silence, a special live adaptation of her sound installation Hacked Voices. In this version, the installation becomes a live composition in which voices, electronics, and the Transept organ of the Oude Kerk merge together.
Hacked Voices is a sound installation inspired by an incident in Tbilisi in which hackers infiltrated public bus payment machines and broadcast pro-democracy messages through the system. The work transforms this act of digital intervention into a sonic environment built from fragmented and processed voices, reflecting on how voices can interrupt systems of control and reclaim public space.
About Anushka Chkheidze
Anushka Chkheidze is a composer and producer of electronic music from Tbilisi, Georgia, whose genre-transcending work bridges the avant-garde, contemporary classical music, and the world of IDM. As a child, she attended music school and sang folk songs in a youth ensemble. At the age of eleven, she began singing in a small village chapel. Her electronic music is influenced by these early experiences. Chkheidze also composes music for film and theatre. On her debut album Halfie, she discovers a completely new side of herself, exploring ambient and classical influences. Her second album, Move 20-21, is a journey of the mind through space and time.
About Silence
The music series Silence is a programme of morning concerts. Every first Friday of the month, as the city awakens, musicians explore the centuries-old acoustics of the Oude Kerk. At the heart of the Silence series is contemporary music, where acoustic, digital, and electronic sounds merge. Following in the footsteps of Sweelinck’s walking concerts centuries ago, the audience can move through the historic architecture while engaging with the music.
