Next Tuesday, 3 February, the Oude Kerk, in collaboration with Eye Filmmuseum, is organising an evening inspired by Minne Kersten’s installation at the Oude Kerk. The event, part of the Eye on Art programme series, presents a selection of Kersten’s video works alongside films from Eye’s collection. In conversation with curator Marianna van der Zwaag and Elif Rongen-Kaynakci (curator of silent film), she will explore in greater depth the influence of film as a medium and its history on her work, particularly in relation to the depiction of visions and hallucinations.

The conversation will be conducted in English.

About the exhibition
Specially for the Oude Kerk, artist Minne Kersten has developed a new audiovisual installation in which she draws a connection between spiritual imagination and the magic of early film techniques. The twenty-five-metre-high spiral staircases of the Oude Kerk serve as a central motif. In There’s Always Another Twist, Minne Kersten explores how religious architecture and myths, like early cinematic techniques, employ visual illusions and effects — such as visions and hallucinations — to evoke an alternative reality.
