In this workshop, you will work hands-on with techniques related to the themes and motifs of the exhibition and the work of Minne Kersten. Discover how to create images without using a camera. Guided by analogue photographer Rogier Alleblas, you will make photograms by placing objects on light-sensitive photographic paper. When light is exposed onto the paper and it is then developed in the darkroom, a print appears showing the shapes of the objects that blocked the light. During the workshop, you will also learn how to make pinhole photographs – images created with a self-built camera without a lens, using only a tiny hole through which light enters. This results in mysterious, soft images. Be surprised by what light reveals and what it conceals.

Minne Kersten: There’s Always Another Twist
This workshop is part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition Minne Kersten: There’s Always Another Twist. For the Oude Kerk, artist Minne Kersten has developed a new audiovisual installation in which she draws connections between spiritual imagination and the magic of the earliest film techniques. The twenty-five-metre-high spiral staircases of the Oude Kerk form a central motif. In There’s Always Another Twist, Minne Kersten explores how religious architecture and myths, much like early film techniques, use visual illusions and effects such as visions and hallucinations to evoke an alternative reality.
