Series of tours about the chapels of the Oude Kerk.
Stop by the Oude Kerk during the Red Light Festival on Saturday 24 and 25 June. On presentation of the festival programme booklet, admission is free (available at the Oude Kerk entrance, other participating venues, and the market stall of the Wallen Festival at the Nieuwmarkt).
We are organising a special programme of guided tours on the history of some important chapels.

About the guided tours
The Oude Kerk held numerous religious and public functions in the more than seven centuries of its existence. During the guided tour, you will learn about the history of several important chapels. For example, about the iron chapel, the first city archive, where the most important city documents were stored for centuries, as well as the St. Sebastiaanskapel, where bread was distributed to the poor. In the Lady Chapel, you will find the oldest, medieval stained-glass windows. The tour ends in the brand new It's OK... chapel. Artist Viola Renate talks about the chapel she designed and the art project now running in the Oude Kerk.
About the Wallen Fesitival
On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June, cultural and social organisations and entrepreneurs on the Red Light District will open their doors to the neighbourhood. Stroll along the narrow canals and through the picturesque alleys, enjoy live music, taste local delicacies, attend a mini workshop and visit one of the numerous special historical locations. More than 60 venues are participating with programmes as varied and colourful as the neighbourhood. Check out the whole programme here.
Over de rondleidingen
De Oude Kerk kende in de meer dan zeven eeuwen van zijn bestaan talloze religieuze en publieke functies. Tijdens de rondleiding kom je meer te weten over geschiedenis van een aantal belangrijke kapellen. Bijvoorbeeld over de ijzeren kapel, het eerste stadsarchief, waar eeuwenlang de belangrijkste stadspapieren waren opgeslagen, maar ook over de Sebastiaanskapel waar brood werd uitgedeeld aan de armen. In de Mariakapel vind je de oudste, middeleeuwse glas-in-lood ramen. De tour eindigt in de gloednieuwe It's OK...-kapel. Kunstenaar Viola Renate vertelt over de door haar ontworpen kapel en het kunstproject dat nu in de Oude Kerk loopt.
Over het Wallen Festival
Op zaterdag 24 en zondag 25 juni openen de culturele en maatschappelijke organisaties en de ondernemers op de Wallen hun deuren voor de buurt. Wandel over de smalle grachten en door de schilderachtige steegjes, geniet van livemuziek, proef lokale lekkernijen, volg een mini workshop en bezoek een van de talloze bijzondere historische locaties. Meer dan 60 locaties nemen deel met programma’s die even gevarieerd en kleurrijk zijn als de buurt. Bekijk hier het hele programma.
