Amsterdam Archaeology Closing

14 April 2024

4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Take your own Wax-Dipping object home.

Invite someone along

By popular demand! Sunday 14th April marks the final day of the Meredith Monk: Calling exhibition. Monk's installation, Amsterdam Archaeology, will cease to exist on that day. Over the past months, visitors have contributed to the creation of a unique Amsterdam variation of this iconic installation. During special Wax-Dippings, visitors brought objects of personal value such as musical instruments, bicycle pumps, books, and phones; tangible reminders of their lives and this time. Together, these objects formed a monument of individual and collective memories.

Take your own object home

If you attended one of the Wax-Dippings and had an object dipped in beeswax that you would like to keep for yourself, come by on Sunday 14th April between 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm to collect and take your own object home.

Wax-Dippings

Throughout the duration of the retrospective exhibition Meredith Monk: Calling, the Wax-Dipping Station was open at scheduled times. During Museum Night, the Christmas holiday, and on 30th March, visitors brought objects that were added to the Amsterdam Archaeology installation.

Largest retrospective exhibition
Meredith Monk: Calling is the first European retrospective of Monk's rich and diverse body of work. The exhibition celebrates her visionary work and offers a unique overview of her influential interdisciplinary artistry. Monk transforms the church space into a singing body and immerses you in an audiovisual experience specially created for the Oude Kerk. The exhibition translates her live performances and concerts into encounters with immersive video and sound installations in the 700-year-old church.
